Your Website And The Internet
So you have a website…
… BIG DEAL!
What does your website do for you?
Does it promote your products/services?…
… Does it sell your goods online?
|
|
What is the REAL purpose of your website?
The question is…
…”Does your website serve its purpose?”
Too many times I ask this question, and when I look at the client’s website, it half-heartedly attempts to serve the purpose it was designed for.
People who visit your website have a need…
…and sometimes that need wants to be satisfied in the shortest possible way.
Trying to convince your visitors that you are the best business to satisfy their needs with long, drawn-out sales pitches just serves to diminish their interest in your products/services.
Get to the point…
…Give them what they came there for.
If you sell widgets, show them your widgets. Let them contact you about your widgets…
…and do it in the shortest possible time.
One of the best websites I’ve seen is from a Debt Counsellor in Johannesburg. The site is 1 page long. At the top of the page is the company’s logo. Below the logo are a few questions relating to the visitor’s situation (The questions are designed to elicit answers which the visitor already has in his/her mind). Below the questions is a contact form, asking for the person’s name, email address, and telephone number. After submitting the form, a consultant from the Debt Counselling Company calls the client to discuss their needs further.
THAT’S IT!
It is absolutely brilliant.

Who says you have to have lots of pages on your website?
The purpose of the above Debt Counsellor’s website is to get people to contact them, and it does this flawlessly, and quickly.
What is the purpose of YOUR website? Does your website serve its purpose efficiently?
